Jim Sligar

Jim grew up in Wichita Falls, Texas. At Texas A&M he studied Agricultural Economics and Horticultural Science. After a few years of pursuing a career in horticulture in Houston he entered the commercial construction industry. He only recently left his career in construction and commercial real estate development.

While living in Georgia the church he attended with his family had a strong ministry emphasis on missions. In this gospel sharing church atmosphere as an adult, it reminded him of the joy he had as a teenager participating in mission trips to Mexico as part of a youth group and choir from his home church in North Texas.

Jim was raised in a Christian home and made a decision for Christ in his young life. He understood the power of that relationship with Jesus even at that young age, but as he began his family, he saw the importance of growing his relationship with the Lord. Through faithful friendships in his church family and community he was encouraged and discipled to a deeper faith.

In that church family Jim was able to work with youth groups as a small group leader and participant in mission trips. Because of his love for his son, J Logan, he volunteered with other God focused men in a church sponsored scouting program and enjoyed not only the outdoor experience with his son but also seeing other young men grow their faith in Jesus.

Jim returned from a personal sabbatical a few years ago with an invitation to return in a full-time position to work in the town and with the citizens of Bato, Leyte. He is looking forward to growing his friendship with the Living Word Church congregation and Pastor German Bolo and becoming a “local” with an emphasis in youth-oriented programming as led by the Holy Spirit.  This was truly a divine appointment for Jim. He will quickly say that God has long been working in Bato. In joining His Work, he is seeking to be obedient and to serve others in this walk for God’s glory.

John Shapiro

John is grew up in Nashville, Tennessee. After graduating from Auburn University and serving as an air intelligence officer in the U. S. Navy, he began a career in sales and sales leadership, retiring in 2013.

He made the decision as a 10 year old to ask Jesus to come into his life and acknowledged that Jesus was God's son who came to save us from our sins so we could live for ever with God. However, it was not until his time in the Navy that John realized that Jesus wasn't just another thing in his life but that Jesus needed to be involved over every aspect of his life. Since then, John has been working on growing his understanding of God's character and living more and more like Jesus.

John's love for Christian missions began when he went on a high school spring break mission trip to Mexico. He learned the importance of serving others (people from other countries as well as students) and how to share Christ with others. He has been on numerous mission trips, both domestic and international, since then, but his favorite type of trip is with students. This lover for missions lead to the opportunity to serve on his church's mission committee for many years and as chairman on two occasions.

Dan Stogner

Dan grew up in a Christian home of 3 boys of which he was the middle. Sherman was a charming town of God fearing people.

All of the brothers played almost everything with a ball. We went to a great church with a wonderful youth group.

Dan accepted Christ at the age of 9 year old.

He grew closer to Christ through discipleship through his church and FCA. Dan earned a scholarship to Baylor University in Waco, Texas to play football. While at Baylor he was in FCA and a wonderful church.

Upon graduation Dan went into sales and has remained in that field for his whole career.

Dan married his wife in 1992 and just celebrated his 28th anniversary. He has 25 year old daughter and a 21 year old son. God has really blessed Dan.

The past few years Dan has had a strong call on his life for ministry to disciple men for Christ.
